The third issue of Go Do It finds our format taking hold and with it a display of some incredible interpretations of what it means to be urban. This issue introduces three new sections to the magazine that highlight the Studio members in a different light. Our “Spotlight On Illustration” showcases Eddie Pena and his 2007 reportage for the design firm Integer Group, Michele Bedigian’s photo of the Harbor Bridge in Sydney, Australia is the centerpiece of our first “Spotlight On Photography,” and Despina Georgiadis interviews Margaret Hurst for our new “Art Of” series that provides a little background on our feature story artist. This month’s feature is “The Site,” Margaret’s reportage of a New York City construction site where the people are the story and the building the background. Kati Nawrocki starts off the issue with her personal story of the connection between the rituals of a latino barbershop and those of her mixed heritage in “The Shapeup.” Rounding out the urban story we go from one end of the spectrum where we find the beauty and fantasy of “Central Park” by Veronica Lawlor, based on her commission for Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York’s Columbus Circle, to the grit and strength of the origin of so many of our American cities in “Down in the Valley,” a photo essay by Dominick Santise on the old Bethlehem Steel site in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. As always we hope you enjoy and look forward hearing what you have to say.
